Population

The Jackson Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 90,056 in 1970 to 129,949 in 2010. That was an increase of 44.3 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population decreased from 174 in 1970 to 3,979 in 2010. That was an increase of 2186.8 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 0.2 percent to 3.1 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 40.2 percent.

Sources of Population Change

The primary sources of population change are:

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. In it, natural change (B-D) was the primary factor in adding population in the two most recent periods replacing NDM in the first period.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, the same pattern in adding population continued to apply.
